9 Overlooked Traffic Sources You Probably Never Thought of For Increasing Website Traffic

Take away everything else when it comes to online marketing, the ONLY thing which matters is generating website traffic; people to see what you're writing about. Everything else which you do is more or less to get more traffic and people to see your content. This article is going to look at 9 website traffic sources which you may never have thought of before.

YouTube - YouTube is a great traffic source. Create videos which relate to your niche whatever that niche may be and upload them to YouTube. Be sure to include a link back to your site either at the beginning and end of your video or in the description section of the video, or both! To get some extra traffic, create video responses out of your videos. Find extremely popular videos in your niche, then create the response from that video to yours to see some of that popular video's traffic trickle off in your direction.

SlideShare - Slideshare is kind of like YouTube, but it's just for slide shows. It has a massive audience, though, so you should take advantage of it. You can take your existing posts from your site, maybe your most popular posts, then turn them into slide shows which you can narrate.

iTunes - If you create podcasts, put them on iTunes and make them free for people to download. Make sure you include a link back to your site here, as well.

Google/Yahoo/Bing Images - Every time you save a new image on your site, make sure you make effective use of the title and alt text tags. The alt text tag is especially important for Google and you should use your keyword as this tag. This will ensure that your image will appear in Google's image results for that keyword. I've found that almost 2% of the website traffic to one of my websites comes from Google's image results. It just takes a second to include the alt text tag, so don't overlook this and the traffic which comes with it.

Facebook Ads - Most webmasters are just starting to use Facebook Ads. This is a great advertising network to use because you get so many more options when it comes to targeting your demographic.

Contest - A contest is a great way to bring in some extra traffic to your site and leverage whatever you want. Offer something coveted which is related to your niche and have the criteria to enter be to tweet about it, make a post on Facebook, etc. Word will spread as will your readership.

Buying Websites - You can purchase websites to get a completely new source of traffic which you can direct traffic from or you can burn it down and put a squeeze page in place. There are a lot of possibilities.

Affiliates - If you have any kind of product or service to promote, you can't forget about getting affiliates to send some traffic to you. Get signed up at an appropriate affiliate network and get some help.

Offline Traffic Sources - Don't forget that you can promote your site offline, as well. Create fliers or even merchandise with your site's URL and name on it and dispense them all over the place. If someone sees your site offline and decides to check out your site, they are much more invested than someone who casually finds your site through a link.
